Artist Spotlight: Hyoju Cheon

Newyork, NY, United States, 28th Mar 2023, King NewsWire –  Hyoju Cheon has been chosen to participate in the upcoming Project Gallery V group show curated by Faust Luo. Cheon’s work, titled “Mapping without Scale,” was selected by Luo and will be on display at online.

Cheon’s work explores the relationship between space, form, and the human body. Her practice involves creating surrogates and obstructions for her body, recording her movements as kinetic loops, and measuring wear and erosion in handfuls of dust. Shape, whether simple, geometric, body-like, or formed out of indentation of our bodies, is crucial to her work and creates a space between verbal and nonverbal.

Cheon’s sculpture features semiotic elements that can be found, usually mirror the environment or architecture around her. Her practice often casts a space, an object, or a body in motion, responding to the conditions of a site. She is interested in domestic spaces that are often overlooked despite being a place where one may spend much of their time.

“The inconspicuous nooks in walls, the floors, and the corners are the points of departure for my installations,” said Cheon. “My work often emphasizes their presence and materiality, and together- I, my body, and the space interact with each other.”

Project Gallery V is a group show featuring a diverse group of emerging and established artists from various backgrounds and mediums. Curated by Faust Luo, the show aims to provide a platform for artists to share their work and engage with a wider audience.

“I am excited to be a part of Project Gallery V and to have the opportunity to share my work with a wider audience,” said Cheon.

Project Gallery V will run from  March 15th – April 15th, 2023
